In this section, we will highlight, list, or otherwise provide information about reports of interest to general audiences, corporate, educational, and governmental representatives. Featured ReportsNational Center for Manufacturing Sciences Nanomanufacturing Industry Survey - October 2005 This very important report completed by the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences, Ann Arbor, MI was funded and requested by NSF. It surveyed 6000 senior manufacturing executives of which a 10% response was received. More than adequate as defined by the NSF request. The report outlines several findings about how nanotechnology is being perceived, planned (or not planned) for, or pursued by existing firms. The key results obtained from this report include: Many firms are not vertically integrated sufficiently to meet the demands of the multi-disciplinary capablilities required to fully design, test -- especially human and environmental impacts, and manufacture first- and certainly second-generation nanotechnology products.* More governmental funding, incentives, and promotion of awareness to create more public acceptance and indeed technology “pull” to generate more private sector funding. To read the full abstract of the survey go to the NCMS web site. It is well worth reading. *This highlights the need for one of the research services RINTek may be able to provide: product testing for Health, Safety or environmental hazards.
