The NNI was formed in 2000 in response to surveys done by the Interagency Workgroup on Nanotechnology that indicated the USA to be lagging in research and development of applications on nanotechnololgy. Five years later, and several billion dollars invested through the National Science Foundation, National Institute for Science and Technology, NASA, DARPA, and other government agencies, the USA has regained the technology lead.
RINTek was conceived to follow and implement all four ot the goals of the NNI. As you contemplate the goals below, and then consider our key objectives, you will see that RINTek does indeed intend to further each of these. Our focus will be on 1, 3, and 4. However, within the confines of a charitable organization, we will also implement 2 as well.
The four goals of the NNI are:
- Maintain a world-class research and development program aimed at realizing the full potential of nanotechnology;
- Facilitate transfer of new technologies into products for economic growth, jobs, and other public benefit;
- Develop educational resources, a skilled workforce, and the supporting infrastructure and tools to advance nanotechnology; and,
- Support responsible development of nanotechnology
